Mapei: Don't Wait Review
written by Monique R. Smith
Jacqueline Cummings, or Mapei to her fans, is known for her eclectic and uplifting pop sound. She has graced the music world with the release of her brand new single “Don’t Wait.”
The Swedish singer's music is heavily influenced by pop and soul, as she was raised on Michael Jackson, Liberian music, and rap. Mapei can be compared to singer Kelis because of their love of electric, funk and neo- soul as well as their similar taste in style. She has been on the scene for at least four years, and her newest single is nothing short of amazing.
“Don’t Wait” is a completely different sound compared to her original hip-hop style. One of Mapei biggest musical influences is upcoming west coast rapper Kendrick Lamar. Mapei was heavily influenced by the underground hip-hop movement in Stockholm; she mentions that she played a big role in bringing up the hip-hop culture in Sweden.
The Magnus Lidell-produced track “Don’t Wait” is a calming love song focused on the excitement of new love. The song has playful lyrics that include “Let’s laugh and cry until we die.” along with touching lyrics like “If it wasn’t for you, I’d be alone. If it wasn’t for you, I’d be on my own.” The song displays how easy is it to fall in love with your best friend. Throughout the song Mapei conquered her fear of telling her lover that she doesn’t want to wait another moment to let him know that she wants to take their relationship to the next level. This sensation can relate to some because there aren’t many women willing to express their love, men are expected to make the first move when expressing thoughts and feelings about love. Mapei has the perfect single for the upcoming summer of love.
